Annual Exams

An annual exam allows your OB/GYN to review your gynecological, physical, and mental health. It allows you to speak with your practitioner specifically about women’s health outside of other general appointments. The dedicated team at Advanced Obstetrics & Gynecology, LLC, welcomes women of all ages for annual exams at their locations in Lebanon, Branchburg, and two offices in Flemington, New Jersey. If you’re due a check-up, call to schedule an appointment or book an appointment online today.

Annual Exams Q&A

What is an annual exam?

An annual exam is a preventive health review that examines all aspects of female wellness, including:

  • Blood pressure
  • Cancer screenings
  • Family planning
  • Hormone changes and hormonal therapy
  • Other health screenings
  • Pelvic exam
  • Vaccinations

The providers at Advanced Obstetrics & Gynecology, LLC, individualize each annual exam to take into account your age, medical history, and family history.

What screenings does an annual exam include?

An annual exam often includes several essential screenings to catch the early signs of any health concerns or abnormal cells. Not every patient has tests for every condition at every appointment. Tests may include:

Breast exams

All women starting at age 40 should receive an annual mammogram to screen for breast cancer. This may reduce to every other year from age 55 onward. If you’re younger than 45 years old, you can request a breast exam at any time.

Pap smear

All women aged 21–65 should have a Pap smear every three years to check for abnormalities that could indicate cervical cancer.

Other screenings may include:

  • Bone density
  • Sexually transmitted disease (STDs)
  • Colon cancer
  • Depression
  • Diabetes

Your health is the utmost priority of the team at Advanced Obstetrics & Gynecology, LLC. They strive to catch harmful, potentially life-endangering diseases early so they can begin immediate treatment.

Who should have an annual exam?

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends that the initial gynecologic (reproductive health) visit should take place between the ages of 13 and 15 years. This visit is primarily for preventive health care, education, and guidance, rather than for routine pelvic examination, which is only performed if indicated by symptoms such as abnormal bleeding or pain.

An annual exam is especially vital if you have an existing health problem or a family history of diseases.

When you partner with Advanced Obstetrics & Gynecology, LLC, you receive comprehensive patient care, tailored to your specific health concerns. Book a consultation by phone or schedule an appointment online today.
